Quilting Projects for 2010

So, I have been thinking a bit about what I would like to make this year.  I really want to learn some new skills, because I'm far too tempted to just repeatedly use skills I feel comfortable with, like strip piecing, or straight line machine quilting.

This year I would like to learn the following skills:
1.  Hand quilting
2.  Hand piecing blocks +/- curved seams (curved seams might be pushing it a bit!)
3.  Applique (probably not needleturn at this stage; I'm thinking raw-edge hand stitched)
4.  Free motion machine quilting / stippling

I have five UFOs, four of which I intend to complete this year, including:
1.  Hexagon quilt (by 10th April 2010, the due date of my baby's birth).  This will involve completing the top, and then hand quilting and binding the quilt.  I will need to work on it every day between now and then to achieve this goal :-)
2.  Liberty prints scrap crib quilt.  I just ordered the backing and binding fabric today, and should have that finished in a week or two.  Perhaps I could try something new with the quilting of this little beauty.
3.  Lecein quilt.  I have started straight line machine quilting this and would like to have it finished by the end of the month.
4.  Bali pops Nine Patch.  This is going to be a gift for my paternal Aunt and Uncle's wedding anniversary, which I think is in May.  So I really need to get it finished before our baby arrives in April.  The nine patches are all pieced (I think I have about 68 of them).  I just need to decide what I'm going to do with them!

You can view these projects by referring to my blog entries menu on the side bar (see "Baby's Quilt" entry for Lecein quilt project, and "Christmas Goodies" entry for Liberty prints crib quilt).

I would like to enter a quilt in the Qld Quilters Show in October as well.  Maybe the hexagons?

What are your plans for 2010?

You should def enter your hexagons in the QQ show. How exciting!

My upcoming projects are:

1. Mia's fairy quilt
2. Quilt for Anna's baby
3. Quilt for YOUR baby!
4. A heart's quilt for a friend.
5. A family-sized flannel quilt to all snuggle under in Winter. I want to use these fabric by Anna Maria Horner: http://store.annamariahorner.com/foflco.html

I also have some little projects I want to do like an Amy Butler bag and skirt. And I need to make a pin cushion!

I also want to learn some new skills this year:

- Machine quilting - I need to expand my repertoire beyond stitching in the ditch and echo quilting! I think I will do that 6 part QQ workshop.
- Applique - I would love to make the Whirlygig quilt: http://www.pieceocake.com/ClassInfo/beckyclasses-02.html

So many projects - I'm glad we make the time!
